Louisville, as we know, sinkholes can lurk anywhere, beneath suburban homes, city streets or even football stadiums and museums. Here in Kentucky, a sinkhole gobbled eight classic cars on display at the National Corvette Museum. Corvettes, were piled on top of each other in a huge pile of dirt and concrete fragments, the 60-foot-long, 45-foot-wide, 30-foot-deep sinkhole opened in the Sky dome display area in mid-February.
The project to fix the large sinkhole is expected to last six months and cost millions of dollars, according to museum spokesperson. The museum will remain open during repairs. Workers will stabilize the sinkhole walls with metal sheets, then fill it with about 5,000 tons of crushed limestone and a grout mixture. Concrete flooring will top off the project.
Louisville, sinkholes are a real problem here due to failing infrastructure and ancient sewer pipelining.
