Louisville Water Company (LWC) is a proud member of the Partnership for Safe Water, a unique cooperative effort between Environment Protection Agency (EPA), American Water Works Association, Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, National Association of Water Companies, and Association of State Drinking Water Administrators. The Partnership encourages and assists United States water suppliers to voluntarily enhance their surface water treatment plants performance for greater control of pollutants, parasites, and other microbial contaminants.
LWC has participated in the Partnership since 2000 and has met the requirements for Phases I, II, and III at both the B.E. Payne and Crescent Hill Treatment Plants. Phase I requires completion of an extensive membership application. Phase II requires data collection and reporting on baseline turbidity results for both raw and finished water every year. Phase III requires completion of a comprehensive self-assessment evaluation that is reviewed by a team of utility peers.
In 2010, LWC received the Ten-Year Director’s Award. Only 32 utilities in the United States have achieved this level of performance by consistently exceeding EPA drinking standards. LWC submits an annual report that demonstrates continued compliance with Phase III requirements.
Also in 2010, LWC received the Phase IV Excellence in Water Treatment award for its B.E. Payne Water Treatment Plant. A team of utility peers reviews a rigorous assessment report of plant information and determines if optimized performance has been achieved. This plant is one of only eight in the country to achieve this status.
